I work in the Finishing area of production as a Finish Optician.

Why is the position the right fit for you?

I love performing a variety of different tasks. It keeps things interesting, and it's always good to see a job from someone else’s perspective. On a daily basis, I am guided by the experience of my coworkers Becca and Becky, who have a background in dispensing. These two offer me a unique viewpoint, on the importance of the individual tasks we perform in Finishing, and the positive affect they have on our eye care professionals.

What do you find most satisfying about your job?

I absolutely love my coworkers. It's such a fun environment to be in on a daily basis. We do a lot of laughing which I think is a great thing. It's good therapy.

What are the biggest challenges you face as a team at Cherry Optical, Inc?

Deciding on a radio station that everyone agrees on, it's harder than you think!

In your opinion, what is the secret behind Cherry Optical, Inc’s success?

Honestly, the dedication to all of the employees and owners. Also, we can't leave out all the new technology! Something new comes through the door every couple of months, so we're always learning something new and staying fresh on the latest technology.

What area of optical technology excites you the most?

All of it really, but relevant to the finish area, my favorite is the AR Focovision. Tried and true these devices make checking the prescriptions a cinch. However, I am excited to share that Cherry Optical, Inc is adding a new AR Control and Blocking machine in the next couple weeks. The addition of this automated machine allows us to process 100+ jobs/hour which frees up our Finish Opticians to focus on the more detailed hands-on tasks.

Mentors- Who has guided you in this industry? How did you get here?

My mentor is Lynn Cherry ; she taught me almost everything I know about the optical industry. When I started working for Cherry Optical, Inc in 2002 I knew very little about optics and the company was still relatively small. At that time, there were only seven people employees, three of them being Joe, Lynn, and their daughter Kim.

What is a frame line you love?

There's too many to narrow down to one, so don’t hold me to it, but the first one that popped into my head is Kate Spade.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

A cosmetologist.

I like spending my free time camping and enjoying other outdoor activities with my husband (Steve) and our two boys Noah and Eli. We like to venture out and discover new areas even if it's a simple place.

What music are you embarrassed to like?

I'm not embarrassed to like this music, but I listen to techno when I clean my house. That one is for you Becca. :)

What celebrity or historical figure wears or has worn glasses best?

If we're talking sunglasses, it's got to be Charlie Hunnam (Jax Teller) from Sons Of Anarchy.

Favorite TV show and why?

I love any show with Anthony Bourdain in it. No Reservations, Layover, Parts Unknown, etc. I’ve also been hooked on Fixer Upper.
